I feel like I should like this episode but I don't know how. I love little winks and nods to the fandom and pop culture but when that's the premise of an entire episode...I don't know how to react to that. I think the main thing keeping me from actually fully enjoying this episode is the fact that I don't really subscribe to fanon. I accept only what happens in the show as canon, which means I'll accept what happened in this episode as canon. But I feel as though I have to take it with a grain of salt. Regardless of the new canon there's no denying that it was blatant, shameless pandering (and I really hate using that word). I love MLP:FiM and the fandom but I just didn't enjoy this episode as much as most others seem to have.
Overall, I felt it was really hit or miss. I guess I didn't NOT like any of it but some of the things I could have done without were Lyra/Bob Bon, and Derpy. And, shockingly, I wasn't impressed by The Dude pony. (I don't know what's wrong with me). The parts that I really did enjoy were the Mayor's speech at the end and Gummy's philosophical monologue.
Maybe I just need time to let it sink in.
